Trabzonspor have officially announced that transfer talks are set to reach a crucial point with former Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.
The 34-year-old is scheduled to arrive in Turkey on Wednesday for talks with the club’s hierarchy.
The Egypt international had previously been linked with Besiktas, but the transfer may have fallen through.
Salah left Liverpool at the end of last season after nine years at the club. He scored 257 goals in 442 appearances and helped the club win several trophies..
His contract was terminated by mutual agreement at Anfield, with the club releasing him a year on from signing a two-year deal.
Salah enjoyed a fine summer with Egypt, helping them reach knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup for the first time in history.
The veteran forward bagged one goal and two assists, providing a timely reminder of his quality.
Salah has been coveted by Saudi Pro League clubs, but he appears set to remain in Europe.
However, his hopes of playing in one of the top leagues on the continent have not come to fruition.
If he joins Trabzonspor, he will have a chance to play in the Europa League this season, having failed to win the trophy in his time at Liverpool.
Signing a player of Salah’s stature would represent a significant coup for the Turkish club this summer.
Trabzonspor finished third in Super Lig last season, eight points behind champions Galatasaray.
